Student Protest against the RSS invites Police Brutality
  • Student Protests outside the office of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office invited a brute lathi charge from the police. The Delhi Police comes under the Union Home Ministry. Videos of the protest and the completely unwarranted police action have gone viral.

The march by the students took place on January 30, 2016. The protest was against the 'institutional murder' of Rohith Vemula at Hyderabad Central University. The students were demanding punishment to those who allegedly led the harassment and victimisation at the behest of the RSS-BJP regime which led to the death of Rohith: specifically  action against the Vice Chancellor of the Hyderabad Central University (HCU) Appa Rao and ministers in the Modi government: Bandaru Dattatreya and Smriti Irani. According to facebook posts by Rahul Sonpimple, it was not just the police but also 'plainsclothemen' and alleged goons of the RSS who indulged in the attack. "Cameras smashed by the police," wrote student protestors. "Our fight for justice for Rohith. would go on, our struggle against casteism will move forward, battling casteist and communal-fascist forces like the RSS at every step."

While some reports claim that the police had to use force as the protesters broke through the first barricade, police officials speaking to the media denied having used any force or detaining any protesters.“No protesters were detained and no force had to be used at all,” DCP (Central) Parmaditya told PTI.

On December 9 and 10, 2016 (December 10 is International Human Rights Day!), the Delhi Police had similarly brutally lathi charged students who were part of the Occupy UGC Campaign.

There was a sinister silence from the media on the conduct of the police
    Our story had read,
"If it bleeds, it doesn’t lead! For those of us who rely on our Facebook friends and Twitter accounts on social media for our news, the only information of police brutality on protesting students at the #Occupy UGC protest march to Parliament on December 9, 2015 were the photographs of bleeding students, with swollen and bruised faces and bandaged heads, and the spray of water cannons."
