शुक्रवार को एनसीआरबी ने जेल में रहने वाले कैदियों पर एक रिपोर्ट जारी किया है। एनसीआरबी की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार जेल में रहने वाले तीन में से दो कैदी दलित, पिछड़े और कम पढ़े-लिखे तबके के लोग हैं। एनसीआरबी ने ये आंकड़े तब जारी किए हैं जब देश के पांच राज्यों में चुनाव होने हैं और इन राज्यों में धर्म और जाति के आधार पर अक्सर वोटों का ध्रुवीकरण देखने को मिलता है।

गुजरात में खेती के लिए जमीन की मांग को लेकर प्रदर्शन कर रहे दलितों में से एक दलित ने आत्महत्या कर ली। जूनागढ़ कलेक्ट्रेट के बाहर हो रहे प्रदर्शन में प्रभात परमार, जिग्नेश राठौड़ और चंदू परमार नाम के तीन प्रदर्शनकारियों ने ज़हर खा लिया था। इनमें से प्रभात परमार की अस्पताल में मौत हो गई।
