Human Rights Defenders Alert - India has issued urgent appeal to the Focal Point for Human Rights Defenders in National Human Rights Commission, National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi, State Human Rights Commission, Chennai, Tamilnadu, Hon’ble Chief Minister Tamilnadu, Director General of Police, Chennai, Chief Secretary of Tamilnadu, Home Secretary of Tamilnadu, Superintendent of Police Karur District, Tamilnadu, District Collector of Karur District Tamilnadu and Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Geneva - regarding the Illegal arrest and detention under false and fabricated charges leading to 10 days of judicial custody of RTI Activists and human rights defenders Mr. N. Shanmugam and Mr. Senthilkumar in Karur district of Tamil Nadu by officials of Taluk Office and local police. The Taluk officials are targeting the human rights defenders for using RTI Act and filing queries to get legitimate information to help people to claim their rights.
