HAPPY TO BLEED CAMPAIGN

Date:
December 3, 2015
Dear all,
You must have read about the HAPPY TO BLEED campaign launched by young activists across the country in response to the comments of the Temple Priest of Sabaramalai temple that menstruation is impure. Well, there is nothing more pure than menstruation, it is because of the menstrual cycles that human race is continuing.

To protest against such backward mentalities, and speak out boldly that there is nothing impure about menstruation, activists of Abhivyakti, the women's wing of Lokayat, together with male activists, will be campaigning at various crossings of Pune city, displaying placards and distributing pamphlets to explain to people the importance of coming out of this medieval and patriarchal mindset. We will also be selling a booklet that explains the science of menstruation.

Date: December 3, Thursday.
Time: 6.30 pm
Venues: Goodluck Chowk, Nal Stop, Sancheti Chowk, Abhinav Chowk

All those young activists in Pune who wish to participate in this awareness campaign can join us. You may come down to Lokayat office by 6 pm, or come straight to the crossing that is convenient to you at 6.30pm. The campaign should continue for an hour.

Date: December 2, 2015
Time: 6 pm
Venue: Ambedkar Sanskrutik Bhavan, Near Pune Railway Station.
Speakers: Chief Guest - Prakash Ambedkar

Other speakers: Mukta Manohar, Neeraj Jain

This public meeting is being organised as the concluding program of a six day Yatra in the various slums of Pune on the theme of Samvidhaan Bachao, Desh Bachao. The Yatra is being organised in the backdrop of the increasing assault on basic socialist orientation of the Indian Constitution, which calls upon the policy makers to build a society oriented towards fulfilling the basic needs of all citizens, food, education, health, a decent job, security in old age. However, the government is rabidly pushing policies to attack welfare, cutting down on the already low social sector spending of the government, while at the same time transferring lakhs of crores of rupees to the rich. Simultaneously, to divert the people's attention from this anti-people agenda, it is  pursuing a divisive and communal social agenda, and has launched a vicious attack on democracy and secularism, fundamental pillars of the Constitution.

Do  join us for the concluding program today evening.
in solidarity
