The Delhi Action Committee for Assam has strongly condemned the brutal assassination of All Bodoland Minority Students Union (ABMSU) president Lafiqul Islam Ahmed in broad daylight at Titaguri bazaar, Kokrajhar. Lafiqul was a fellow traveler, a young dynamic leader, a vocal critic of all forms of religious fundamentalism; a fierce critic of RSS.
He was also a tireless campaigner against child marriage, for women's rights to modern education within his own community in particular and women's rights to modern education in general.
Further the statement says that it has come to the knowledge of the Committee, from various sections of mainstream Assamese media and from the social media posts of many of his fellow comrades that he was on the verge of exposing a massive nexus between some top cops and the international cow smuggling mafia in Assam.
The Shallow promises of Assam government will not suffice, the Committee has demanded that a free and fair investigation be instituted and justice be delivered at the earliest.
Also, while it is heartening to see that various sections of people in Assam and various organizations representing various ethnicities have condemned Lafiqul's murder in the strongest possible words, the Committee has expressed the hope that peace will be maintained at any cost in the already volatile atmosphere of Assam.
